About
Jack began playing drums in his first year of secondary school at age 12. Here he started receiving one on one instrumental lessons and enjoyed being part of the school and local ensembles, playing drums and various percussion instruments. A few years into his tuition Jack developed a keen interest for jazz and started focusing on developing and honing his skills to suit this challenging genre, transcribing and taking influence from legendary drummers such as Max Roach, Roy Haynes and Philly Jo Jones.
In 2015, Jack was accepted to study jazz at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Over the four year course of his degree, Jack has received tutelage from some of the finest musicians in the world. Such as Steve Forman (Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys, Sergio Mendes), Tommy Smith (Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Gary Burton, Arild Anderson) and Alyn Cosker (Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Alyn Cosker Group, Michael Mcgoldrick). As well as being taught by world class musicians, Jack has also performed along side the likes of Mike Stern, Laura Jurd and Tom Walsh.
In the summer of 2018 Jack organised and provided a jazz trio spanning some fourteen nights for the athletes and VIP’s of the 2018 European Championships. As well as this, among other gigs, Jack has also played for various corporate events up and down the country, including venues such as Gleneagles, Ayr Race Course, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Mar Hall Estate and Perth Concert Hall.
Out with the world of corporate gigs, Jack performs regularly with the prestigious Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Strathclyde Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Mindaugus Stumbras Trio and the Susannah Huse Quartet, to name a few. As well as being an in demand sideman, Jack also composes and performs his own music and is working on composing enough material to release a debut album.
